~Next Adventure will be updating again starting October 3rd~

Also, I’m happy and thankful for all of comments and readership for the Lamplighter! It’s an archetypical story. I like it quite a bit. I mentioned before, I love short stories. It was really satisfying making something from beginning to end and to actually finish a piece.
Oh! The gender of the kid is something that has been asked about a few times. She’s a girl. She’s got a pretty androgenous character design. Since the comic is wordless this never comes up, I can just tell you guys: her name is Willamena and the old man’s name is Boswell (I named them after my family’s cat and dog).

I also apologize for not being more active around the site. I love being a freelance designer for a living, but it makes balancing all of my fun side projects rather difficult. Unfortunately, my paid work has to be completed before I can get to things like this. The main purpose of all of my comics, illustrations, and sketches is to improve my storytelling skills. It’s kind of a selfish motivation to be sure : ). That said, all of you aid my drive to want to be better. You guys deserve the best, especially with your patience in my choppy attempts to improve.

The Next Adventure will be updating again on October 3rd (a Sunday), once the Lamplighter is finished, and then will continuing updating on Sundays from there on out. I know some really want to get back to that story, and it’s really frustrating that I’m doing this. I’m sorry for your frustration, and I hope the return of Natalie & Co. will ease some of that.

EDIT: All right! So, there was going to be a new vote incentive, but I seem to be having some trouble with Top Web Comics. But I want to share the image anyway, so go to the gallery for a new picture: Natalie a la Bryan Lee O’Malley, in honor of all of this Scott Pilgrim that’s going around. Yeah, she looks something like Kim Pine.

Here’s the low down on upcoming posting. As mentioned in previous posts, one of the reasons for the extensive hiatus was a short comic (not Next Adventure related) I made for an anthology that myself and a group of comic artist friends put together. The comic is going to be printed, almost exclusively (meaning it won’t be up on the web). EXCEPT.

Between this  Next Adventure chapter’s end and the beginning of the next, I’m going to be posting chunks of that short story comic and it will be available to read  here for a limited time. I’m thinking of posting three pages a week…Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, until it’s completely posted. It may be up for a week or two after that before I take it down and from there, print it is. Not to mention the return of our regularly scheduled programming.

So stay tuned for that, starting next Monday, July 26th!

The two newest pieces of fanart are gifts from two friends that enjoy copious amounts of time in which I talk about the development of this story, hence their knowledge of upcoming events. I have to mention it today because remembering and viewing the pencil drawing by Naki actually shed a ray of light into what was a pretty crummy day. It’s a gorgeous drawing and I have the honor of owning the original, which is to be framed and hung on my wall.

Oh! Yeah! I almost forgot…here’s another by Roxy! This sign is used to tell whether or not the dishes in the dishwasher are dirty, because I can never remember. (Perforations are thanks to the cats. Good job guys.)

It’s good to have Next Adventure active again! I sort of miss these guys too, even though I’ve been working on it during this extensive hiatus. Something about sharing it validates them. In the meantime, while all of this has been stagnating, my sketch blog flourishes. There’s a new page of sketches there, too, with some Next Adventure stuff thrown in. There is also many a drawing of the resident cats, who ensure I am not rusty at drawing Regina.

Hope everybody’s summers are off to a brilliant start!

The other comic project I’m working on, however, has had my attention for the last few months and is happily coming to an end. Okay, well, part of it. I have a couple pages to look at on my blog here and here. I haven’t decided how many ways it’s going to be presented to the public, though it for certain is going to be in a book. Most likely there will be at least 10 pages up on the web.

So on to working on Next Adventure : ) !

Not as good news first. I don’t have a comic update this time. But it will come! The main factor in preventing posting Next Adventure right now is finishing the short comic (completely non-Next-Adventure thing) I’m working on for a book I’m putting together with my friends. I’m very excited about this, guys, and I can’t wait to share that once it’s finished! I will be sure to let you know.
I want to thank the people who’ve been emailing and asking about Next Adventure! It means a lot to hear that you want read more. Don’t worry, it’ll be back. In the meantime, here are a few things that may help. I know some people want to be updated when the comic starts back up again. I’m afraid I can’t really email everybody that–I don’t have the time–but there is an rss feed at the top of the page and I’ve also got a Twitter that I use almost exclusively to inform when I’ve posted art anywhere. Follow if you’d like! Which brings me to the other thing, my sketch blog, which has been recently updated with a fresh page of Next Adventure sketches. Stay tuned there for little bits and pieces of Next Adventure as well as a myriad of other things. All art, all the time ; )
